What Is a Lipoma & How Is It Removed at Our Clinic?
A lipoma is a soft, fatty lump that develops under the skin. It’s made up of fat cells and grows slowly over time. While harmless, lipomas can become uncomfortable or affect your confidence, especially if they increase in size or appear in visible areas.
How do we identify your lipoma?
Our doctors will examine the lump to confirm it’s a lipoma and check its type and depth. In some cases, an ultrasound may be advised to ensure it’s not pressing on nearby structures.
What happens on the day of removal?
Lipoma removal is performed under local anaesthetic, which fully numbs the area. You’ll feel no pain while the lipoma is gently removed through a small incision. The procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes, and you can return home the same day.
What does recovery look like?
Most patients resume normal activities the same day. Stitches may be dissolvable, and the small scar fades over time. You’ll receive full aftercare instructions and ongoing support to ensure a smooth recovery and the best cosmetic results.
Lipoma Types
What Types of Lipomas Do We Remove at Our Clinic?
Our doctors provide expert lipoma removal for all common types, including subcutaneous, deep, and angio lipomas. Treatment is fast, safe, and designed to minimise scarring while ensuring the cyst does not return.
Superficial Lipoma
The most common type, found just under the skin. These are soft, round, and move easily when touched, often appearing on the shoulders, arms, or back.
Deep Lipoma
Located deeper within muscle tissue, these may feel firmer and slightly less mobile. They are still benign and can be removed safely with a minor surgical procedure.
Angiolipoma
Contains small blood vessels, which may cause slight tenderness or swelling. These lumps often appear on the arms or legs and are completely safe to remove.
Spindle Cell Lipoma
A slow-growing, soft lump usually found on the neck or upper back. It’s benign and can be easily removed for comfort or cosmetic reasons.
Fibrolipoma
A mix of fat and fibrous tissue, giving it a firmer feel. Common on the back, thighs, or upper arms, and can be removed in a simple minor procedure.
Lumps & Bumps
Not sure what type of lump you have? Our doctors assess and remove all common lumps safely, helping you get clarity and peace of mind.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does lipoma removal cost?
Lipoma removal starts from £295, which includes both the consultation and the procedure. You’ll receive a full breakdown of costs before anything goes ahead — no hidden fees.
Is lipoma removal painful?
Not at all. The area is numbed with a local anaesthetic, so you won’t feel anything during the procedure. Most patients describe it as quick and completely comfortable.
How long does lipoma removal take?
The entire procedure usually takes under 30 minutes. It’s performed in our clinic on the same day as your consultation, so there’s no need for multiple visits.
Will the lipoma come back after removal?
Once removed, the lipoma is gone for good. In rare cases, new lipomas can form in other areas over time, but the original lump won’t grow back.
Can I get treated on the same day?
Yes! After your initial assessment, we can often perform your cyst removal on the same day. We also offer evening and weekend appointments to fit around your schedule.
